From its humble beginnings as an initiative by some of the UTAS Law Faculty staff to encourage the staff and students of the law school to come together in a casual setting, the Chai & Chat has become one of the most popular social events on the non-academic calendar. It is an opportunity for staff and students to bake some tasty treats to bring along and share with all the members of the faculty, while also enjoying a hot drink and getting to know one another. The event has been credited with breaking down the hierarchical barriers, which can sometimes occur between staff and students of each year group, in educational institutions. This year the Chai & Chat will also see staff members from the University Wellbeing Team come along to introduce themselves and ensure that staff and students are aware of the welfare resources available to them. TULS strives to ensure the legacy of the Chai and Chat, as it continues to shape and support the community-like culture at the UTAS Law School.
